Welcome

Proudly South Australian owned and operated, Adelaide Vasectomy is based in the beachside suburb of Glenelg.

What is scalpel-free vasectomy?

Traditionally, vasectomy used to be performed by making two incisions on either side of the scrotum to access the vas deferens, which is the tube that transports sperm from the testes.

However, since the 1980's, this method has been effectively superseded by the so-called "scalpel-free" method, in which the vas deferens on either side are accessed through a single opening made in the middle of the scrotum.  As the name suggests, a scalpel is not used and the technique is typically performed under a local anaesthetic.

Whilst both the traditional and scalpel-free vasectomy methods are equally effective, scalpel-free vasectomy is associated with lower rates of complications as well as less post-operative pain.  It is now the preferred method of vasectomy worldwide.

Why choose vasectomy?

Vasectomy is one of the most effective methods of contraception, making it suitable for anyone who is not looking to have any children or considers their family complete.

Vasectomy should be considered permanent, as reversibility is can be very costly and cannot be guaranteed.
